Organization partnership started September 30, 1944.

Purchased a pick-up truck $237.00 and a 1 ½ ton Dodge dump $,2077.68.

Annual payroll was $17,321.13 ($200,000 in todays $’s).

Paid $235.00 a year in office rent, $160.48 in phone bills and $30.07 in electric bills.

Original F.O. Day Co. office on Cordell Avenue in Bethesda, MD.

1946

Purchased our first piece of paving equipment - a Buffalo-Springfield roller purchased from Paving Supply and Equipment Company for $885.48.


1953

F.O. Day Co. signed Articles of Incorporation on December 26.

1964

Francis O. Day III opens business as “Brigham and Day”. Mr. Brigham (FOD II’s best friend) joined the business, because FOD III (his son) was too young to sign contracts.

March - Main office moved to Congressional Lane in Rockville, MD.

1969

New office built on Southlawn Lane in Rockville, MD.

1970s (early)

First asphalt plant, F.O. Day Bituminous on Chapman Avenue in Rockville, MD.


1970s (mid)

Chapman Ave. asphalt plant moved to Southlawn Lane.


1970s (late)

F.O. Day Co. outgrew their office space and had to add a second wing to Southlawn.

Asphalt plant in Forestville, MD opens.

1985

New Standard Havens asphalt plant erected in Rockville, MD crushed stone quarry to replace Southlawn plant.

“Brigham and Day” and “F.O. Day Company” merge businesses.

Asphalt Plant in Frederick , MD opens.

Asphalt Plant in Waldorf, MD opens.


1999

Asphalt plant in Leesburg, VA opens.

Replaced Standard Havens plant with our current Astec plant in Rockville, MD.

1999 - 2001

Arundel Mills mall becomes the largest site development contract for F.O. Day Co. with 267 acres of clearing, 3 million yards of dirt, 5 miles of 84” pipe 50 feet in the ground.

Installed the largest storm water management pond in the state of Maryland at the time.

ICC paving becomes the largest single paving job for F.O. Day Co. with 510,000 tons of asphalt laid. One crew placed the most tons in one shift that F.O. Day Co. has ever done, totaling 6,072 tons

2003

A new office is proudly built on Gude Drive in Rockville, MD to serve as F.O. Day Headquarters.

2019

F.O. Day Co. celebrates its 75 year anniversary.

Company undergoes a re-branding, designing an updated identity that merges the strong history and character of the company with a modern aesthetic.

Company launches an innovative website design that streamlines material sales & contracting proposal requests for business partners; integrates a quick-click mobile map system to its asphalt plants; offers a simplified jobs portal for prospective team members; and showcases the history & capabilities of F.O. Day Co. as the leading asphalt contracting company in Maryland & Virginia.
